Description

Inside the church, you will find a magnificent organ

This mechanical musical instrument is unique in Europe; it is an automatic philharmonic organ featuring 1000 pipes (violins, flutes, voices, etc.), a carillon and a metallophone, and it required 4 years of restoration work.
It can be heard during the "Mardis de l'Orgue" (organ Tuesday) concerts that are organised during the cultural season. Consult the events program at the Tourist Office.

At the far end of the church, you can also admire the beautiful tapestry, which has a story to tell:

In 1957, Father Ackermann (1914-2011) arrived in Garagos, a small village in Egypt located 25km from Luxor. He joined a school founded ten years earlier by a Jesuit, Father Stéphane MONTGOLFIER, with the mission of social and cultural development of the village. Together, they created the Garagos Pottery workshops which are still renowned today.

Having noticed the talents of the Nubians in weaving camel hair blankets, he installed looms in this craft center, and introduced the young girls of the village. He himself took lessons at the Aubusson tapestry house. On this occasion, he would have participated in the production of part of the "Chant du monde", a famous suite of tapestries by Jean LURÇAT, considered today as one of the emblematic artists of modern tapestry. On this advice, Jean LURÇAT came in person to spend several months in Garagos to offer his inspiration to the tapestries and to allow children to develop their artistic expression.

This large composition was woven in the middle of the 20th century in Upper Egypt and assembled at the Aubusson factory. It was exhibited to potential buyers in the church of Les Gets by its creator, Father Philippe ACKERMANN, friend of the priest at the time, and a great admirer of the work of the famous painter and tapestry designer Jean LURÇAT. The municipality of Les Gets decided to acquire it in 1970 so that it would permanently sit in the Choir of the Church.
